Ben Reid addressed the Alliance International Conference 11-13th November 2015 in Antalya, Turkey speaking on Sustainability.
Conference: Towards 2020 – What will your co-operative look like?
At the mid-point of the Blueprint for a Co-operative Decade, this Conference was described as an exclusive opportunity to exchange views with fellow co-operators, practitioners, policy makers, academia and other experts about the achievements so far and the challenges and opportunities ahead, towards 2020. A distinguished panel of co-operative leaders will envision the future of the pillars of the Blueprint for a
Co-operative Decade: participation, sustainability, identity, legal frameworks and capital. In facilitated debates, speakers will discussed the challenges and opportunities to realise this vision.
The session headed ‘Defining and measuring co-operative sustainability’ saw Ben address a global audience on ‘The three pillars of sustainability – Economic, Social and Environmental’, and are there differences in the approach that co-operatives have to these questions. The debate included the discussions and preliminary results of the work done by the Sustainability Advisory Group together with examples of sustainable practices from around the world. Reference was also made of the significance of the Queens Award to Industry for Sustainability received by The Midcounties Co-operative in 2015.
