Midcounties Co-operative, the UK’s largest independent co-operative society, has announced the appointment of Clare Moore in the newly-created role of Chief HR Officer.
Clare will be joining from Halfords where she is Group People Director responsible for 11,000 colleagues and where she has led people development including its award-winning store colleague ‘Gears’ training scheme. Clare’s previous roles included spells at Barclaycard, Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin Lagonda.
Co-op Midcounties trades across numerous business types including food retail, children’s nurseries, travel agents, funeral services and energy supply and employs 8,500 colleagues working across a variety of business groups.
In her new role, Clare will lead the development of the society’s people function with a remit to align its people and business strategies, whilst maximising the benefits of its co-operative model and enhance colleague development, rewards and career opportunities.
Phil Ponsonby, Midcounties’ Group Chief Executive, said: “Clare is an exceptional leader and joins our executive team at an important time for the Society. Our Connected Future strategy will maximise our co-operative difference by unlocking the talents of our people for the benefit of our customers, members and communities. Clare has a proven track-record of working with similar multi-channel organisations to deliver programmes that have led to impressive business results.”
Clare Moore said: “Midcounties has unique values that are rooted in its member-ownership model. At the heart of these values is democracy – listening to the views of colleagues and members to shape every major decision the society takes. It’s exciting to join a people-first organisation that’s keen to put colleagues at the centre of its strategy.”
Clare will take up her role as Chief HR Officer later this year.
