Families across the Wyre Forest enjoyed party games, a meal and the chance to meet Father Christmas at the Home-Start Wyre Forest Christmas party, which was supported by fundraising activities at Co-op Midcounties stores across the region.
More than 100 local children, parents and carers enjoyed a disco, Christmas-themed games and a fish and chip supper at the Salvation Army Centre in Kidderminster, while Father Christmas delivered presents for all the youngsters. The party was organised by family support charity Home-Start Wyre Forest in Kidderminster, which provides respite for families in the area who are dealing with a range of issues including stress, mental illness, substance addiction or difficulties with single parenting.
The Christmas party was supported by a range of fundraising activities led by Co-op Midcounties, including a recent Fairtrade bake-off and money raised through carrier bag sales throughout the year, while the Society’s chief executive Phil Ponsonby joined colleagues from local Midcounties stores in volunteering at the Christmas party. The Society also donated hampers containing Christmas food items to all the families that attended.
Home-Start Wyre Forest is Co-op Midcounties’ charity partner in the region, which sees colleagues, members and shoppers take part in fundraising activities to support Home-Start throughout the year. Since the partnership with Co-op Midcounties began in March 2018, the Society has raised a total of more than £20,000 for Home-Start Wyre Forest, helping the group to provide a helping hand to even more families in the area.
Belinda Darby, Manager at Home-Start Wyre Forest, said: “Many of the families we work with will wake up on Christmas Day without friends or family visiting them or presents under the tree. Our Christmas party is a way of helping these families to create some wonderful festive memories together in a happy and friendly environment, away from the rigours of everyday life.
“We rely on the donations and volunteering efforts of others to continue offering our services to families across the region, and so Co-op Midcounties’ ongoing support has been imperative to us. We’d like to thank them for helping to make this event so special for our families at Christmas time and we look forward to working with them on many more projects in the new year.”
Phil Ponsonby, Chief Executive of Co-op Midcounties, said: “Spending quality time with loved ones is an important part of Christmas, and it was fantastic to see the Home-Start Wyre Forest Christmas party bringing together so many families in the local community.
“Home-Start Wyre Forest is a charity that is close to the hearts of many in the region and has always been well-supported by our shoppers, members and colleagues. We look forward to continuing working with the charity next year and helping them reach out to many more local families in need of support.
