The Co-operative Group is changing its membership and look
• The Co-op Group has recently launched a new brand. It’s going back to the clover leaf logo that was first used in the late 1960s
• From mid-September the Co-operative Group will make its new membership available to the public and the new style card will be issued to all Group members.
• The Midcounties Co-operative will be retaining the existing white and honeycomb card design.
• Approximately 36,000 Midcounties members are also Co-operative Group members, so to avoid confusion and Midcounties cards being unnecessarily destroyed when they receive their new style Group Card, we will be writing to these members to advise them to keep their Midcounties cards.
Example of the new Co-operative Group cards
The Midcounties Co-operative will accept and process the new Co-operative Group card and / or keyfob in the normal way in order to award membership points on qualifying purchases. Co-operative Energy however require the member to have a Midcounties card in order to earn points on payments and meter readings.
A summary of Co-operative Groups new 5:1 membership scheme
Each time a Co-operative Group blue card is presented against own brand products or services, 5% of this value is awarded to the member, and 1% is donated to a community project. Please note that this is only available in Co-operative Group stores and nothing is awarded to the member on branded purchases.
Frequently asked questions
Will we be changing the way our membership card looks?
No, our card will remain the same.
Who will get a new card?
All members of The Co-operative Group will be sent a new blue membership card to replace their existing one. The member will need to retain their Midcounties card if they are member of both Societies.
Will this affect our scheme in any way?
No, our scheme will remain the same. The Co-operative Group is a completely separate Society to us.
Can a Group member use the savings on their card in our sites?
No, Group members will only be able to redeem their points in their own Society’s trading sites.
What benefits will a Group member get from using their card in our sites?
Members will earn membership points on all qualifying products, including own brand and branded products as the current process. Co-operative Energy however require the member to have a Midcounties card in order to earn points on payments and meter readings.
Will my Midcounties card still earn points in Group stores?
Yes, Midcounties members will continue to earn points on all qualifying products. However please be advised that The Co-operative Group have not made a profit since 2012, therefore any points earned with The Co-operative Group using a Midcounties membership card have had a zero value at each year end, and no payment has been made to Midcounties members.

Our food retail and healthcare tills are only able to provide a year to date points for Midcounties members. Members of any other Co-op may use their card within our sites in order to earn membership points, but the till receipt will not provide a year to date points balance, only a confirmation of the points earned in the transaction.

Your card can be used wherever you see the white and honeycomb membership sticker, this includes Central England, Southern and Chelmsford star and in Co-operative Group sites. These societies combined are known as the affinity scheme.

The payment will be made in the fourth week of November to members. Co-operative Group members will be advised of their Share of the Profits payment plans in the future.
