A Warm Welcome
David Bird joins us as CEO of Co-operative Energy. Previously he was at E.ON, where he was managing director of the residential business. Prior to this, he worked for such organisations as Vodafone, M&S and BUPA. He has held non-executive director roles in the NHS and is currently on the board of the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Transforming People's Lives
For Fairtrade Fortnight we connected with more than 1,000 young people, telling them what fair trade means. And during Co-operatives Fortnight, we shared stories of how our members had helped transform their local communities.
Our Travel business has doubled its profits, with our Member Travel Club resulting in 58% of all sales now being to members. Our ‘Win Back the Cost of Your Holiday’ has seen the cost of holidays to Spain, the Baltic and Greece refunded.
Bags of goodness
We distributed more than £200,000 to over 250 local good causes in 2016 from sales of the Society’s carrier bags, funding causes ranging from dementia awareness to young people’s skills workshops.
