Our AGM diaries
Nearly 600 members gathered at Chateau Impney in Droitwich Spa on 13 May to hear about the Society’s progress in the past year. For the first time, the AGM was streamed live, and 100 people who couldn’t come followed it on the web.

The Annual General Meeting gives members a chance to find out what has been going on in your Society and to question directors and senior managers directly. It’s also a great opportunity to meet other members and take part in discussions on issues important to you and the Society’s businesses.
Here’s what happened
10.00 MEMBERS STARTED ARRIVING and had the opportunity to check out the stands situated around the auditorium, representing our local suppliers, charity partners and all our businesses.
10.30 WELCOME FROM OUR PRESIDENT, Ruth FitzJohn, followed by forums on energy and brand. In the energy session, the new Co-operative Energy CEO, David Bird, outlined his vision for the business. The brand session focused on the recent rebranding by The Co-operative Group and possible options for Midcounties. Lively discussion followed each session.
12.00-13.00 LUNCH and a chance to sample some of the delicious food from our local suppliers, including Peter’s Yard’s Swedish bread, cakes and biscuits (petersyard.com), dairy products from Cotteswold (cotteswold-dairy.co.uk), handmade cakes from Fatherson Bakery (fathersonbakery), Fairtrade coffee from Revolver (revolverworld.com) and fine spirits from Cotswolds Distillery (cotswoldsdistillery.com).
13.00-15.30 THE ANNUAL REPORT and accounts were presented, followed by an update from the Membership Strategy Committee. The floor was then opened up to members’ questions. One member asked what compliance monitoring is done in relation to the annual report – the answer being that it was audited by leading accountancy firm KPMG to ensure that it complies with UK law and EU standards. At the end, every member received a booklet with more than £100 worth of voucher offers.
