The ethical tourist
We all want to explore the world, and making sure the hotels we stay at care about their local environment and communities is a priority for Co-operative Travel. That’s why we offer the Travelife Collection – a portfolio of sustainable hotels. By Karen Pasquali Jones

Think of going on holiday and chances are you imagine exploring an exciting new area, seeing the sights and soaking up the traditional culture as much as the sun.
Now you can ensure your break ticks all these sustainable boxes by staying at a Travelife-certified hotel and making a holiday pledge that could include respecting local customs, buying locally made souvenirs, and eating and drinking regional specialities to give back to the community and environment.
And because one good (green) deed deserves another, Co-operative Travel are doubling membership points on all holidays booked to Travelife-certified properties. The Travelife Collection, available through Co-operative Travel, is a portfolio of hotels working to protect their environment and preserve the quality of destinations and communities.
Last year, tourists made more than 700 sustainable holiday pledges including using greener transport, dining in local restaurants, recycling plastic water bottles and reusing hotel towels, while nearly 2,000 guests took part in 125 beach clean-ups in 23 countries around the world.
