Co-operators want a better and fairer world. Yet often, it is hard to know how to make a difference. Your Society is working to make a difference in a positive way to lives of people, both in your community and throughout the world. For example, on a local level our store developments often bring a benefit to the community by providing a local service and creating jobs. On a worldwide level, we continue to support a variety of initiatives including Fairtrade, ethical sourcing, local sourcing and concern for the environment.
The Society's Environmental Improvement programme (EIp) has moved forward with a range of new ideas coming from employees to improve our environmental performance and efficiency.
Our Funeral Group introduced LpG fuels for some funeral vehicles to achieve reduced emissions. Environmentally friendly coffins are also available to clients.
At our Childcare nurseries, biodegradable nappies are used and children are taught the value of recycling and environmental awareness.
